Ready to begin with Generations Homeschool Curriculum?
My family has been using Generations since August of 2022. Since then, I have fallen head over heels for this curriculum.
They sell books for history, Bible, character building, electives, science, literature, and more.
Generations fulfilled many requirements I had for Bible and History curriculum:
-It had to be God-centered, and the theology needed to be solid.
-The information had to be accurate (of course).
-The curriculum had to fit within our budget.
-Open and go style.
-I needed something that wouldn’t take hours.
So where would one begin with Generations? Especially when you haven’t used any of their books before.
Elementary Students
I highly recommend the core curriculum packs for every grade. These typically come with Bible, character/worldview, history, reading/literature, and (for the elementary grades) science. Generations has these core packs for grades 1-12. I purchased them for both of my kids two years in a row, and I’ve been very happy with them. Plus, this curriculum is very affordable. You’ll only need to add math and maybe a few language arts pieces (spelling, grammar, etc) to round out your year.
Generations History for Elementary
If you don’t want or need the entire core pack, I do want to show you the elementary history series called “Taking the Nations for Jesus”. This series is fantastic!
A few points about this series by Generations:
You can jump in at any point with this series.
These can be done family style with multiple children
You don’t have to follow the grade level on the book, and younger/older kids can tag along. Save the money and have your elementary students do ONE of these per year. You can make it easier or more difficult along the way for siblings.
The books are beautiful! Check out my video review on “Taking Europe for Jesus” on Youtube. It’s one of the most beautiful textbooks I’ve ever owned.
Add other readers on the Generations website for expansion activities and to study subjects more in depth.
You will do reading, writing, praying, and hands-on activities with these books. There’s something for everyone and every learning style in this curriculum. The hands-on activities are optional, but I highly recommend them.
Taking Europe for Jesus Review
Middle School
Just like Elementary, I highly recommend the core grade packs. Again, you’ll get Bible, character, history, science, readers, and more. I personally purchased grade 6 and 7, and we loved everything in these packs.
Literature
Generations has some really fun literature packages for middle school. I purchased all of them (I want all the books!), and these are wonderful books to keep for years to come on your bookshelves.
We are starting grade 7 next year, and we picked the Great Christian Adventures set for our son. It comes with Swiss Family Robinson, The Life of Henry Martyn, and Titus: A Comrade of the Cross.
Middle School History
Generations has several different history curriculum choices for middle school grades.
1. Taking Europe for Jesus
This is an European history course that takes you through everything from the bubonic plague to the Protestant Reformation. Recommended grade is grade 6.
2. How Jesus Built His Church
Church histroy course that is set to be released in June 2023. I pre-ordered this one myself! They recommend this set for grade 7.
3. American Faith
American History course recommended for grades 7-8.
Middle School Science
At the time of this writing, there are 2 science curriculum options from Generations; God Made the World, and God Made Life. We persoanlly have God Made Life, and this is a fantastic life science curriculum for middle school students.
Generations High School Curriculum
The high school options from Generations homeschool curriculum are wonderful. Full of rich theology, interesting topics, and challenging texts, the options for high school that Generations offers are hard to beat. Unlike many curriculum companies, Generations offers many options for grades 9-12.
Something to keep in mind with the upper level courses is that most the high school courses can be used at any grade 9 through 12. Most of the courses are not specific to a grade, it’s only specific to high school. You can really mix and match to build your own custom grade for each child this way.
Full Grade Core Curriculum Packages
Just like with elementary and middle school, I highly recommend the core curriculum packs. These are fantastic deals on a set of books that will cover history, Bible, worldview, literature, and character. They have core curriculum packs for all grades, 1-12.
Generations High School History Recommendations
World History - The History of the World
This is one of the best-selling courses that Generations offers. This is a full world history course. I recently purchased this set because of the questions I was receiving about this course. The main question was “is this church history, or a full world history course?”. I can say confidently that this is a world history course. Yes, there is church history, but we can’t tell the history of God’s world without God. There is no history without Christ, as He literally split time from BC to AD. I checked out this course myself and I can say confidently that you will not be disappointed with this world history course.
Typically, students study world history in grade 9, and then move to American History. However, you can do this for any high school grade.
American History - America in God’s Providence
My oldest child is just finishing up this curriculum as I write this. We started this curriculum without knowing much about it, but I can say that I’m so glad we took the chance on it. America in God’s Providence is a 1 or 2 year (your choice) American History curriculum taught through a Christian worldview. As the title says, it really shows you God’s providence in our country on every page. We’ve been so impressed with this curriculum, and I recently made a review video with a flip through and basic information about it.
If you have done a world history curriculum, I suggest moving to this one next for American History. For us, that was grade 10.

High School Literature
Generations has several options for literature. We just finished Great Christian Classics, so I can recommend this one. We’re moving to Worldview in Conflicts next (grade 11). You can’t go wrong with any of the options listed here.
High School Electives (Character, Bible, etc)
Generations is always adding to this section! The “Worldview” is a new curriculum (I just pre-ordered it for my 11th grader) that just hit their site. Most students will need a government class for graduation, and I highly recommend “God and Government”. We took this class along with America in God’s Providence. These two really work in sync together. “How the World Runs” is an economic-type of elective, and this is one we purchased this year as well. It’s a fascinating book!
Any and all of these courses are going to serve your family well.
I’ve yet to be disappointed by anything Generations has put out. I even pre-ordered several new books that will be delivered in June. I can’t wait to review those for you!
Below I’ve listed some of my review videos for you to see some flip-through’s and get a general idea of what’s inside the books.
