Easy Fall Crafts for Kids

You’re in for a real treat today. My son and I put together some of my favorite fall craft ideas for kids in one video (below) for you last week.

Now, while I did these with toddlers and preschoolers, don’t think that elementary kids won’t like these. My son is 11 and he had a ball doing these today. He told me to tell you that the handprint spider crafts were his favorite.

My son and I had a blast putting this list together for parents of toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary students. Hey, even I had fun painting and making a pumpkin.

When it comes to easy craft ideas for kids, many parents overthink what to do.

As a preschool teacher of almost 10 years, I have years of experience making cute fall art for kids.

The idea is to keep it easy, fast, and have your materials prepped beforehand to make the project go easy (and it makes cleanup easier, too).

All of these projects take just a couple of minutes and make adorable keepsakes for you or a family member for years to come.

Supplies for your Art Projects

As you can see, we used very little for supplies. That’s the beauty of this bunch of fall crafts; they are quick, easy, and you probably already have the supplies on hand.

We used washable finger-paint for this bunch of projects, but whatever you have on hand is fine, as long as it’s safe and washes out of clothes and off hands easily.

Here’s a list of supplies I used:
1. Construction paper or cardstock paper. As long as the paper is a little heavier thank printer paper to support the paint, you’re fine.

2. Paint brush.

3. Washable finger paint.

4. Smock to protect clothes.

5. Jar of water to rinse brush.

6. Glitter (totally optional).

7. Marker for some projects.

Pumpkin Handprint

This pumpkin handprint craft is really easy! Take your orange paint and paint the palm of your child’s hand. Press it onto the paper. Take a green marker or crayon and draw the stem and vine. You’re all done! That was SO easy. Make a few more to make a pumpkin patch.

Leaf Handprint Art

Our handprint leaf art is a simple, easy project that you can use any time of the year. For spring or summer, use green paint! For fall, we’re going to use yellow, red, orange, or brown, It’s a great way to teach students about leaves, nature, and why the leaves change color. After painting the hand, press onto paper. After the paint is dry, use a sharpie to draw veins. Add glitter if you’re feeling fancy. If you’re searching for fall leaf crafts for preschoolers, you need to add this to your list!

Handprint Spider

This handprint spider craft is a lot of fun (and one of my favorite fall art activities for preschoolers! It combines art, hand eye coordination, and math all at the same time. If you’re doing a unit on spiders, this will even add science into the mix. All in ONE project. To do this project, paint the palm and 4 fingers black. Press onto paper horizontally. Paint the same hand and turn your paper to the other side. Press again, Once dry, I always love to add googly eyes! Isn’t it cute? These handprint spiders make a great keepsake or kitchen magnet. Cut out, laminate, and add a small strip of magnetic take on the back. Instant magnet!

Handprint Ghost

This cute handprint ghost is a favorite around Halloween for preschoolers and toddlers. Since we don’t want to do scary projects with our preschool classes, this makes a cute addition to art time. To make the handprint ghost, paint the entire hand white and press. Turn the paper upside down. I added glitter to mine, (see video above) but that isn’t necessary. With some googley eyes it makes an adorable handprint craft that turns into a keepsake.

Turn Handprint Crafts into Keepsakes

If you love these fall craft ideas for kids and want to turn it into a keepsake fora family, friends, or yourself, it’s very easy to do that.

Simply laminate or reinforce your project. This can be done in a couple of ways. When I was a preschool teacher and I didn’t have a laminator other than the school one (which always seemed to be broken), I would use contact paper. Using clear contact paper, I would place the project between two pieces and press firmly to get all the bubbles and air out. Once it’s smooth, you’re good to go.

If you have a laminator, I would suggest using that. I use the Scotch brand and I use the 100 pack of lamination sheets.

Once your fall art project is reinforced, simple cut around it. I always leave about .5” of a border to make sure it stays sealed.

Then, I’ll take a sharpie and write the child’s name and year to date it. Sometimes I forget who made what project when I forget to write the name. Whoops. Mom brain!

You can turn it into a fall magnet by adding a piece of magnetic tape to the back. Kids LOVE seeing their art on the fridge, and this is an easy way to do that for the entire fall season….and every year after that.

Have fun making these adorable fall crafts with your kids!

Until next time,

Soli Deo Gloria,

Mandy
