4 Things I Love about the NEW Fix It Grammar by IEW!

Fix it Grammar by IEW is one of my favorite homeschool curriculum picks.

They so generously sent me the brand new, updated Fix It Grammar set to review for you, and boy, do I have some thoughts!

How Fix it Grammar Works

Fix it Grammar is a short, but sweet (and effective) way to teach grammar to your homeschool children. If you don’t homeschool, this is a great way to get extra grammar practice at home with just 15 minutes a day. There’s really no boundaries with homeschool or public school children.

Each week, you present a brand new lesson that builds upon previous lessons throughout the book. You and your child will have around 30 weeks of instruction with this homeschool curriculum. Total, this subject will take you around 15 minutes a day to complete (on average). Every day, your student will edit and rewrite 1 sentence. Each level of Fix it Grammar is a book. For example, there is Town and Country Mouse, The Little Mermaid, Robin Hood, and more! By the end of each grammar book, your child will have written the entire book, one sentence at a time.

There is a main teacher book that has all the answers and a guide for teaching grammar to your student, making it easy for any parent to teach language arts in their homeschool. There is a glossary to help define terms that you may be unfamiliar with.

IEW’s Fix It Grammar is a 6 year Grammar cycle that is as follows:

Fix it Grammar Update

As of this writing (Jan of 2022), Fix It Grammar has just undergone its newest update. There are 4 new features I’d like to go over that have me over the moon happy! I’ve used the previous edition of Fix It Grammar, and I can say it was nearly prefect. The new updates they’ve made with this edition gave me things I didn’t even know I wanted!

  • A dedicated space to rewrite the sentence under the daily lesson

This is my favorite update! IEW has made me so happy with this feature. In the new daily lesson pages, there is a few bars of writing space dedicated to the rewriting of the sentence in the correct form. In the older versions of IEW’s Fit It, we had to use an external notebook. We always used a spiral notebook and put it with our other daily workbooks. Now, we no longer need the extra notebook and everything is all together. Definitely a plus! It’s one less thing to purchase, and one less thing we have to look for each day. Yes…there are days we’ve misplaced it and it made for a hectic morning trying to locate the notebook.

  • Brand New Grammar Cards!

IEW added brand new grammar cards to their Fix It curriculum. The old cards were bland and just one color. We used to cut them up and keep them in a plastic bag. To keep track of them (because we tend to lose small items), we’d tac the plastic bag to the bulletin board above my son’s desk. The new cards are colorful, which helps keep kids engaged. The best part is that they have their own box! No more tacking them to the cork board in our homeschool room. These are organized and in a tidy box.

  • Clues at the Top of the Daily Pages

On the daily assignment pages, they have clues to help your student along the way. I absolutely love this new feature! The old books had clues as well, but it just told the students what they need to look for in general (nouns, pronouns, adjectives, etc.). The new books have clues that tell them how many of each part of speech the children need to find and mark. They’ll know how many verbs, nouns, and more that they will need to find.

At the top, the clues will say:
Nouns (5)
Verbs (2)
Adjectives (1)

…and so on. This is really helpful for students struggling with grammar and correcting the sentences. They’ll know right away if they are missing a certain part of speech, or if they’ve marked too many.

I show off this specific feature in my youtube video above, so make sure you check it out!

  • Brand New Covers

Who wouldn’t love these new covers? The old covers were nice, but these new covers are very modern and sleek. I love the new colors they’ve chosen for the branding. The designer did a wonderful job!

I’ve done Fix It Grammar reviews in the past, but I knew I had to update on my channel and website as soon as I got these in the mail. The updates are a dream for homeschool families.

Until next time,

Soli Deo Gloria,

Mandy
