Paint by Numbers for Beginners

My newest hobby is paint by numbers. By far, it’s been my favorite hobby in my adult years. Not only is it really satisfying to make a painting come to life, but when it’s finished, I have a beautiful piece of artwork to hang on my wall. If you’re a beginner to paint by numbers, I have all the resources you need to get started in this hobby.

This is my Paint by Numbers section in my Amazon shop. Here I have listed all the paintings I’ve bought that come packaged well, and some I plan to buy in the future. You’ll also see the paintbrushes I use, the drying tool that I love, and the frames that I buy to put the PBN canvases on to hang.

What are Paint By Number Kits?

The kits come with a canvas with an image outlined. Each little space on the canvas has a number on it that is meant to be painted with the paint with the same number on the lid. Once all the spaces are painted, your picture comes to life.

Paint by Number kits on amazon have taught me the basics of painting with acrylic paint.

How long does it take to finish a Paint by Number?

How long it takes to finish a paint by numbers really depends on the size of the canvas, the skill of the artist, and the picture you’re painting. Some paint by number canvases can be finished in a few days, or you can stretch it out over a few months. I like to work a little each day (15 -60 minutes) after dinner to wind down. It’s a very relaxing hobby that you can do easily while you listen to a book, music, or watch television.

I created this paint by numbers kit over the fall season, and it was ready by Christmas. I had this one hanging up all throughout winter and loved it. The background took the longest, but with patience and doing a little each day, this painting was done in no time.

I never rank out of paint with this kit. However, I did leave a paint pot lid slightly open by mistake, which dried it out into a glue-like paste. It was a nightmare. I suggest making sure your lids are all fully snapped closed when you start painting.

This painting was a lot of fun to do. Here’s a review from Amazon for this particular painting:

“Product was exactly as advertised; paints were in good shape, close to original photo in color tone and with plenty of moisture. Highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys PBN.”
