Teaching Textbooks 4.0 is Here!
My favorite homeschool math curriculum, Teaching Textbooks, has a major update. My kids were so excited to try this out a few months ago. They even have a brand new app to make things even easier for you and your family.
My favorite new feature of Teaching Textbooks 4.0? You no longer need an internet connection to use it! My family and I live a little further out of town. While we love it out here, the internet connection isn’t as fast as it is in town. Things can run just a wee bit slower out here. Not needed internet is a huge advantage to families like ours.
Why Teaching Textbooks Works for Us
I must be upfront here. When it comes to math, I freeze. Anything above a 4th grade level makes me instantly nervous. While I excel in language arts and writing, math has always been a weak point for me. So when we were researching math curriculum for our children, I knew I wanted something that wouldn’t be too difficult for me.
Teaching Textbooks is the ONLY homeschool math curriculum that does all the teaching and grading for the parent. I have never taught a math lesson myself in all of our homeschooling years. For me, this is the biggest benefit of Teaching Textbooks. If I had to teach a lesson myself, both the kids and I would be in a lot of trouble! TT not only teaches the lesson, but they teach each problem. If my child is stuck on a math problem, there are helpful hints and it even breaks down the problem and works it out for my child. If that isn’t enough, they have TUTORS to help. Yes, real, live, math tutors on standby!
Another thing I love; it’s minimal. Being an online program, TT doesn’t have a bunch of textbooks that they send. All my kids need is a tablet or laptop computer, and they are set to go. On the app, there is even a place to draw out a problem. My kids prefer to use pencil and paper, but I know some kids love the digital side of this. Since we have minimal space for homeschooling, less books is very appealing to my family.
I find that my boys love the backgrounds and custom features that TT allows each student to have. They can change out their “buddy”, which is like a personal avatar that they get as they go along their journey.
My 8th grader said what he specifically loves about TT is that he will learn a lesson, and in a few weeks, they will review it again. He feels that he doesn’t forget a lesson because they keep it fresh in his mind. He also says he loves the hints. Another feature he enjoys is that TT has the number of the lesson where that problem was taught to him originally. If he gets really stuck, he can easily go back to that lesson and learn it again to master it.
Jacob, my 5th grader, really loves the buddies and how they give you new ones when you enter a new grade. Jake also said that he enjoys the review of past concepts. The videos are fun for him and he loves the fun interface. It feels like a game for him, which makes math fun!
My Teaching Textbooks Review
As a parent, teaching textbooks is an invaluable tool.
First, it promotes independence. As a mom and educator, I strive to instill independent learning with my children. As they get older and mature, they want to do more and more school work on their own. Having teaching textbooks during the day allows me to set up one child to do math independent of me, and I’m free to work with the other child one on one. TT gives me the gift of time.
Next, there is no better bang for your buck when it comes to math. If you have 4 or more children, they have a family discount! TT is also very flexible with their scheduling, allowing time for breaks and even “pausing” your subscription to take time for vacation and holidays.
✏️ Teaching Textbooks is the only homeschool math curriculum that
Does all of the grading
Gives hints for all math problems
Has a video instruction for each math problem
Allows parents to have complete control
Best of all, my kids love this program. Making it a win-win situation for me. Every year, my kids beg my husband and I to let them have another year of Teaching Textbooks. In all honesty, this is the math program I wish I had as a child. Math isn’t so difficult or scary to them as it was to me. TT has successfully taken the monster that is math and turned it into a fun, educational game that my children want to go back to, time and time again.
For that, I am ever grateful.
