It’s Time for Christmas Homeschool

As crazy as it sounds, we’ve never done “Christmas school”. This will be our first year officially.

I didn’t know such a thing existed in the homeschool world until last year, and by then it was too late.

This year, though, I felt the need for a break, and had the idea to do a Christmas homeschool unit rather than our regular lessons and routine. I think we could all use the break, not just momma.

My Christmas Schooling Plans

What We’re Using

Our main unit will be Campfire Curriculum’s “Christmas Around the Campfire” study.

After going through this unit, I really liked it and decided to make it our main “spine” during the month of December. With the Core Connections, this unit will cover a lot of bases for us like science, language arts, and more.

Hello, World!

Other Subjects We’re Keeping

We will still be keeping math and Bible going continuously throughout the month.

Bible
For Bible, we’re on a regular reading plan. My 6th grader has an Apologia curriculum along with his regular Bible reading. My 10th grader has a Generations Bible curriculum he uses.

Science
We’ll be taking a break from our usual science classes, which comes at a great time! My 10th grader just finished his semester exam. We couldn’t have picked a better week.

Math
We will be continuing math classes. In order to prevent “brain dumping”, we’re going to keep up with math lessons until Christmas break. We use Teaching Textbooks for math.

Language Arts
My 6th grader has 1-2 more weeks of his active reading class, Redefining School. He does live zoom classes. We plan on continuing those classes until break as well. We will pause his IEW courses for now, though. Same for my 10th grader. Since the Core Connections of Campfire Curriculums covers language arts, we’re covered.

Art
My boys will be continuing art, but we’ll be doing Yellow Spot Sun’s Nutcracker art lessons. It looks like so much fun!

History
We’ll be taking a break for the most part from history. We’ve stopped in a good place with both of the kids and I feel confident about picking it back up in January.

Electives
My oldest will continue his Health elective. He’s almost finished with this one and we want to be done with it completely in January. Once he finishes this elective, we’re moving to the next one, Astronomy!

Other Activities
My kids and I will be reading A Christmas Carol together during this month.

What do you plan to do for the month of Decmeber?

Until next time,

Soli Deo Gloria,

Mandy
